Heard of Carrotmob? Well, Seattle Greendrinks has partnered with the Pike Pub & Brewery to produce Seattle’s first Carrotmob event! On April 22nd (Earth Day), ALL DAY, 25% of all sales at the Pike Pub will go back into the store in the form of energy retrofits and other improvements to improve the pub’s efficiency, reduce its waste, and more; in short, we’ll make it a greener pub.

Carrotmob, das Gegenteil von Boykott und Protest
Carrotmobs sind also das Gegenteil von Boykott und Protest. Anstatt Druck auf Firmen auszuüben, die sozial- und umweltschädlich wirtschaften, hält der Carrotmob ihnen eine große, saftige Karotte hin, wenn sie ihr Verhalten ändern: Der Carrotmob stellt einer Firma bestimmte Bedingungen und organisiert dafür im Gegenzug Verbraucher, die Produkte des Unternehmens massiv kaufen.
Seit letztem Jahr gibt es jetzt wiederum eine spezielle Art eben dieser Smartmobs, welche die Grundidee der Smartmobs mit strategischem Konsum verbindet: Den Carrotmob.
Initiator Brent Schulkin aus San Fransico bringt das Rezept der Carrotmobs auf einen einfachen Nenner: “Firmen würden alles für Geld tun” - und das einfachste ist, genau diese Gier auszunutzen und so den Kapitalismus mit den eigenen Waffen zu schlagen.Read more at www.sein.de

Carrotmob is a method of activism that leverages consumer power to make the most socially-responsible business practices also the most profitable choices. Businesses compete with one another to see who can do the most good, and then a big mob of consumers buys products in order to reward whichever business made the strongest commitment to improve the world. It’s easier to understand if you look at an example. In the first ever Carrotmob event, a liquor store agreed to invest in upgrades that made their store more energy-efficient. In exchange, hundreds of Carrotmobbers showed up at once to support the winning liquor store. To the right is a video of that campaign, and the mayhem that ensued…
